Lofgren Defend Boss' Teleprompter Use

Recent revelations that Bruce Springsteen has a screen at his feet scrolling lyrics to songs seems to have distressed some fans. Guitarist Nils Lofgren stood up for his boss in an interview with the Washington Post, pointing out that the invitation for fans to make requests during shows introduced so many wild card possibilities of rarely performed songs from Springsteen's back catalog as well as cover songs he hasn't done in years, if ever, that a tech safety net should be entirely understandable.  Lofgren said that during the E Street Band's Magic tour the group did a total of 192 different songs and added that having the lyrics close at hand, or in this case, foot, is what '...allows for those ambitious, ad lib moments and an inspired, musical recklessness I believe is unique to our shows.'
