Authorities in London report that singer Amy Winehouse was found dead of unknown causes Saturday (7/23) in a London flat.  News the singer with a well documented history of substance abuse issues has died will register little surprise with anyone who followed her brief and frequently troubled career.  Just over a month ago Winehouse abruptly canceled a number of European tour dates after fans jeered her during what was described as an incoherent performance. 
Keith Richards and several other musicians that had battled drug and alcohol addictions offered Winehouse their support and encouragement over the years, but the talented singer was unwilling or unable to reign in the demons that tormented her.
