The surprise appearance Steven Tyler made with the Joe Perry Project in New York City the other night (story) even surprised Perry, according to Rolling Stone.  The magazine's web site says the Aerosmith guitarist only learned Tyler was at the Fillmore and wanted to do a song with his band moments before taking the stage for Walk This Way.  According to the magazine, the gesture by Tyler may not be enough to save his role in the band - one he apparently does not want to lose despite having signed a separate management contract and confirming solo plans.
Perry repeated his earlier position that the band will consider finding another vocalist in a Twitter post that is certain to produce a lot of applicants.
