McCartney Dodges Disaster In Helicopter

An attempted night landing in stormy weather of a helicopter carrying Paul McCartney and his wife reportedly came within a couple of feet of disaster.  The pilot of the Sikorsky S-76-C made a stormy weather attempt to land at McCartney's East Sussex estate despite poor visibility, and rain. The chopper pilot reportedly became disoriented and misread the altimeter, almost putting it into trees south of the helipad before forcing the craft to climb steeply at the last second.  The Daily Mail says that the incident has been categorized as a serious incident by the UK Department of Transportation Air Accidents Investigation Branch, meaning that it is investigating it as '...involving circumstances indicating that an accident nearly occurred.'  After the near miss, the pilot diverted the helicopter to a nearby air field.
