Leonard Cohen has died

Leonard Cohen produced a body of work that was profound and influential, and he continued doing it right up to the end of his life.  Born on September 21, 1934, the Canadian poet turned singer/songwriter released an album a month after his 82d birthday hailed by many fans and critics as being as good as his best.  His actual date and cause of death were not announced.  For the biography on his Facebook page, Cohen choose the closing verse of what came to be a song that was adopted by so many people that its writer expressed the preference that people stop performing it.

I did my best
it wasn't much
I couldn't feel ...
so I learned to touch
I've told the truth
I didn't come to fool you
And even though
it all went wrong
I'll stand before
the Lord of Song
with nothing on my tongue
but Hallelujah
