Rare Jerry Garcia Items Going To Auction

A May 8 auction being conducted in San Francisco by Bonhams and simulcast in New York will give well heeled Deadheads the chance to obtain some quite unique items from the personal collection of Jerry Garcia.  The sale includes one of just five original oil paintings known to have been created by the guitarist, who left behind a relatively vast collection of art work done in other media.  The painting, done by the Garcia and given to his brother in 1959, is expected to fetch a top bid of between $100 and $150 thousand - as is an early version of the artwork that became the cover for the Grateful Dead Europe '72 album and an acoustic Takamine guitar Garcia used in shows during the 80's.  The 1983 Harley Davidson depicted on the cover of Playing in the Band, the David Gans book, may bring upwards of 60k. Smaller artifacts including sunglasses and handwritten set lists are also being offered.  Previews of items included in the Visions of Garcia auction will be conducted in New York April 11-16 and San Francisco May 4-7.
