CSN Split With Producer & Label

Crosby, Stills & Nash surprised a lot of people when they announced nearly two years ago that they had enlisted producer Rick Rubin for a covers album.  Several months later the project was still reportedly only about 1/2 done.  At the time, Graham Nash said the slow progress had more to do with CSN having a hard time being told how to record than anything else (story). Whether he still feels the blame for continued delays was due to the band is unclear, but things apparently got no better for the project under Rubin. How bad were they? Bad enough that CSN  has ended its association with the producer and its label, Columbia Records.  What is bad news for Crosby, Stills and Nash could be good news for another trio.  With one less project on Rubin's plate, ZZ Top may be able to put the pedal to the metal on its long-planned project with the producer. Craig Hlavaty of the Houston Press caught up to Billy Gibbons at a Houston launch party for Pura Vita Tequila (Hey Craig, tough assignment!), where Billy told him that he and Dusty and Frank plan to be in the studio working-up some new songs in the coming weeks.  As for when recording with Rubin will get underway Gibbons said the producer is '...hard to pin down'.
