Shortly before Chas Chandler of the Animals convinced Jimi Hendrix to go to London with him so Jeff Beck, Jimmy Page and others could hear him, Hendrix, playing under the name Jimmy James, played guitar in a band put together by sax player Lonnie Youngblood.  The reaction of the most successful musicians in England put Hendrix on a fast-track to international notoriety, but he did not forget Youngblood, and in 1969 he played guitar on a song titled Georgia Blues during a Lonnie Youngblood recording session in New York City.  The song was included in a Martin Scorsese special about Blues music that PBS ran in 2003, and later appeared on one of the albums that grew out of the program. Youngblood sued the Hendrix estate, Scorsese and MCA Records, claiming that he had not approved the use of the song on the album and that he did not get credit in the album packaging.  This week, the Hendrix estate filed a counter claim against Youngblood, maintaining that the song rightfully belongs to the estate and requesting that the Youngblood copyright claim be ruled invalid.
