The strong Macon music tradition may not be enough to prevent the Georgia Music Hall Of Fame from heading to greener pastures.  Four cities appear to be in the running to become the new home to the financially strapped museum - Athens, Dahlongea, Dunwoody and Woodstock.  Athens can lay claim to being the home base of REM and Drive By Truckers. Dahlongea fostered Widespread Panic's John Bell and Zac Brown. We don't know whether the other two have any claims to musical fame, but all four combined can't match the role Macon had in bringing the Peach Tree State to the attention of the country musically through the city's role in the careers of the Allman Brothers Band and Otis Redding, and as the home base for Capricorn Records, the record label that propelled the Allmans and several other groups to prominence in the formative years of Southern Rock.  Macon won't go down without a fight.  A group of civic and business leaders is vowing to put together a campaign to keep the museum right where it is.  Even if it loses the Hall Of Fame and museum, Macon will still have an attraction that will draw Allman Brothers fans.  The Big House, a residence some band members shared in the early 70's, opened recently as a ABB museum (story).
