Ringo Starr made an unannounced appearance with the Plastic Ono Band during a tribute concert to John Lennon on what would have been his 70th birthday Saturday (10/9). The concert, staged near the Peace Monument to Lennon in Haskolahin Reykjavik, Iceland, included Sean Lennon, whose 35th birthday coincided with the event, and included the touching scene of him blowing out the 70 candles on a large birthday cake. Ringo, George Harrison's wife, Oliva and son, Dhani, joined the Plastic Ono Band on Give Peace A Chance. In Liverpool, the former Beatle's first wife and son unveiled a sculpture honoring John. Cynthia and Julian Lennon presided at the event marking the official debut of the Peace & Love sculpture in the UK city where the Beatles got their start. In New York, groups gathered around the John Lennon memorial in Central Park throughout the day.
