Max Weinberg Cuts Loose

Max Weinberg got unexpected time on his hands when NBC axed Conan O'Brien as host of the Tonight Show.  The drummer for Bruce Springsteen's E Street Band fell into  anchoring the house band for O'Brien after meeting him when a cabbie dropped Weinberg off on the wrong corner in Manhattan, giving him the chance to ask the newly signed late, late night host what his band plans were for Late Night With Conan O'Brien.  With Bruce off the road and Conan sidelined, Weinberg is using the opportunity to fulfill a dream by forming a Big Band.  The 15 piece Max Weinberg Big Band delivers hard charging, brass fueled, drum driven arrangements of Big Band standards, with Weinberg hammering things home Buddy Rich style. The group plays an ALS benefit concert at the Count Basie Theater in Red Hook, NJ June 11.
