Liverpool Plans Long Lennon Tribute

The two month period between the birthday of John Lennon and the date he was gunned down in New York will mark the start and end dates for a series of cultural programs in Liverpool celebrating his life and music.  Organizers hope events presenting music, art and poetry of the Beatle will draw thousands of additional tourists to the city the band was formed in 50 years ago.  Lennon would have turned 70 on October 9.  December 8 of this year marks the 30th anniversary of his death.  The Lord Mayor of the city in making the announcement said Lennon's '...enduring message of peace is as important now as ever and continues to be an inspiration'.  He called the events a good way to '...allow us to remember him as a man, celebrate his music, and his overall contribution to our city.'
