'Bama Battle Over Skynyrd Song

Alabama State House Bill 336 will decide the official state song of Alabama.  The committee in charge of picking the song to put before the legislature has two leading contenders: Stars Fell on Alabama, a song from the 30's more than 100 artists have recorded, including Pascagula, native Jimmy Buffett, and Lynyrd Skynyrd's southern anthem Sweet Home AlabamaAlabama, the state song since 1931, has just about no support - hardly surprising, since more than 90% of the state's residents can't identify it as the state song.  If the committee vote Tuesday (3/9) is for the Skynyrd tune it could include a recommendation to omit lyrics some think portray the state as too red neck and conservative.
