Pontiac Silverdome sold to Canadians

In what looks like a real estate version of the Cash for Clunkers program, a Canadian company has bought the Pontiac Silverdome for just $583,000.  The 80,000 seat former home of the Detroit Lions cost nearly $56 million to build in the mid 70's. New owners had been sought since the NFL franchise moved into Ford Field seven years ago.  In addition to Super Bowls (2), a NCAA Basketball Final Four and an NBA All Star Game, the venue hosted a number of noteworthy concerts. The Who (1975) and Led Zeppelin (1977) established new indoor attendance records there.  Pink Floyd, the Grateful Dead and the Rolling Stones also did shows there.
