Bank Grabs Capricorn Studios

The building housing the former headquarters and historic studios of Capricorn Records was sold yesterday (11/3) at auction to Atlantic Southern Bank, the note holder for the property.  The long deserted structure on Macon, Georgia's Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard was one of the most influential places in American Rock during the years the late Phil Walden and Frank Fenter presided over Capricorn Records, label to the Allman Brothers, the Marshall Tucker Band and other cornerstone artists of Southern Rock.  After acquiring the property for a bid of $360k a bank VP said they hope to sell it, leaving the landmark's fate unknown.  There is still a chance the Georgia Trust for historic Preservation will step in with a proposal to save it.
