The Rolling Stones will become the first UK Rock band to perform an outdoor concert in Cuba when the group takes the stage at the Ciudad Deportiva de la Habana, a 15,000 seat stadium that usually hosts the Cuban National Volleyball team. The historic date will be coupled with an initiative to get a number of musical instrument companies to provide guitars, drums, amps and other equipment to musicians in Cuba. The announcement of the date on the Stones web site included these words: "We have performed in many special places during our long career but this show in Havana is going to be a landmark event for us, and, we hope, for all our friends in Cuba too'.
