Zeppelin tripped-up in Stairway ruling

The copyright claim filed against Led Zeppelin over the group's epic song Stairway To Heaven last year by the estate of late Spirit member Randy California (story) will continue.  The band sought to have the case filed against them alleging that a key portion of the melody of the song was lifted from a Spirit song dismissed outright and lodged a legal objection to the case being heard in Pennsylvania., a state their attorneys say the band has no contacts or ties with. A District Court judge sided with the plaintiff on the basis of the claim that the group earns royalties from the area that target '...resident individuals and businesses to profit off the exploitation of Stairway to Heaven'.
