Ronnie Wood doc comes to screens

Ronnie Wood has long been one of the most stand-up guys in Rock - a guy that's been willing to admit to his shortcomings in ways few of his peers is. We hear the forthcoming doc Somebody Up There Likes Me is consistent that. Here's a preview...

Little Feat's Paul Barrere passes

RIP Paul Barrere. The Little Feat guitarist recently announced he would be unable to tour with his group of 50 years. The health complications he was confronting took his life this morning. The band posted this on its web site. "it is with great sorrow that Little Feat must announce the passing of our brother guitarist, Paul Barrere, this morning at UCLA Hospital. We ask for your kindest thoughts and best wishes to go out especially to his widow Pam and children Gabriel, Genevieve, and Gillian, and to all the fans who were his extended family. Paul auditioned for Little Feat as a bassist when it was first being put together—in his words, “as a bassist I make an excellent guitarist”—and three years later joined the band in his proper role on guitar. Forty-seven years later, he was forced to miss the current tour, which will end tomorrow, due to side effects from his ongoing treatment for liver disease. He promised to follow his doctor’s orders, get back in shape, and rock on the beach at the band’s annual gathering in Jamaica in January 2020. “Until then,” he wrote, “keep your sailin’ shoes close by…if I have my way, you’re going to need them!” As the song he sang so many times put it, he was always “Willin’,” but it was not meant to be. Paul, sail on to the next place in your journey with our abiding love for a life always dedicated to the muse and the music. We are grateful for the time we have shared.

Black Crowes to fly again

Sibling rivalries have damaged or derailed plenty of bands over the years, including Creedence Clearwater Revival, the Kinks and Oasis. Another that fell victim to that may be preparing to reunite, at least for one tour. The Robinson brothers have apparently agreed to get along long enough to get the Black Crowes together for a 2020 your. As a band that had soooo much potential, that's music to our ears and we hope it leads to them making more music together in the studio.

Ginger Baker has died

R.I.P. Ginger Baker, the flamboyant and often combative drummer for Cream, Blind Faith and Hawkwind, has passed away at 80. His family posted that he was hospitalized and in dire condition several days ago. Edward Peter Baker got the nickname Ginger for his firey red hair, but it also applied to his personality. His relationship with Cream bassist/singer Jack Bruce became one of the most contentious in Rock, with Bruce frequently complaining about the volume and ferocity of Baker's drumming. Such powerful drumming from such a frail looking man surprised fans, as did his longevity.

Debbie Harry details David Bowie flashing incident in new book

Debbie Harry's new book includes a number of accounts of the wild years Blondie and other punk bands were shaking things up. Among the stories is her description of a night she alleges David Bowie showed his and Iggy Pop's appreciation of her providing the two some blow by whipping out his member, an act she recalls as being something Bowie, who was said to be well endowed and proud of the fact, was known to have done on other occasions.  Debbie took it in stride, admitting she was impressed - but not enough to do anything beyond admiring it and finding the incident amusing.
