Ringo adds and subtracts All Starr Band mates

Ringo Starr's All Starr Band revolving door gets another spin as Todd Rundgren and Mr, Mister veteran Richard Page are replaced with previous member (2003/2008) Colin Hay of Men At Work and first timer Graham Gould from 10cc.  Remaining in the 2017 lineup for next year are Journey and Santana's Greg Rolie, sax player Warren Ham and drummer Gregg Bisonette.  While rotating mebers in and out keeps the lineup fresh, Rundgren wishes Ringo had done more to reboot the set list more regularly to keep things fresh for band members. Ringo's 2018 All Starr Band launches a Europen tour on June 5 at L'Olympia in Paris.

Walter Becker estate returns ire in Steely Dan name battle

Donald Fagen's legal effort to obtain sole rights to use of the Steely Dan name (story) has provoked a response from the Walter Becker estate.  A statement issued by a spokesperson for the Becker estate read in part, "We believe the agreement to which Mr. Fagen refers in his suit - drafted 45 years ago - was not in effect at the time of Walter's death", and added, "Mr. Fagen's lawsuit, riddled with half-truths and omissions, misleadingly fails to state that the day after Walter died, Mr. Fagen had his lawyer send a demand letter to Walter's estate", a counter to Fagen's suggestion that the legal battle was initiated by the Becker estate.  The spokesperson went on to contend that Becker's widow made efforts to arrive at a compromise in the matter that were all rejected or ignored by Fagen.

Malcolm Young laid to rest in Sydney

Bagpipes accompanied the casket carrying Malcolm Young's body as it departed from the ceremony at St Mary's Cathedral in Sydney on Tuesday.  The funeral for the late founding brother of AC/DC was attended by his brother Angus, the sole surviving current member of the group, as well as former members Brian Johnson and Cliff Williams.  Guitar picks with the dates of Malcolm's birth and death on them were given to those attending the service as they entered the cathedral and Angus Youn entered carrying his brother's favorite guitar.  The ceremony was a somber one the included a choir singing Amazing Grace and The Lord is My Shepherd in honor of the rhythm guitarist who died after suffering from dementia the last several years of his life.  Family members elected not to speak at the service but expressed appreciation in the program handed to those attending for the "love, support and overwhelming outpouring of kindness" shown them during Young's illness and following his passing.  Singer Brian Johnson was particularly grief stricken as he entered and departed the ceremony.

Neil Young concert site outted

The Toronto Star is reporting that Neil Young's undisclosed concert venue for the set he plans to live stream is a small venue in the town of 1,200 he grew up in.  If the account that an area web site near Omemee, Ontario solved the mystery when it identified Coronation Hall proves accurate, only around 150 people will get the chance to take in the set that Young plans to stream live through his Facebook page and on CTV on Friday night (12/1).

House Bruce Springsteen grew up in for sale

The childhood home Bruce Springsteen grew up in is on the market for about $270k. Bruce resided there with his parents and sister from when he was 6 until he was 18. The Zillow listing for the residence at 39 Institute Street in Freehold, New Jersey details the home as being 736 square feet and having 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.  The Zillow estimate of its value suggests the premium placed on it based on the home's most famous previous occupant is just over 20k. The house is now set-up as a two family home with a rental value of the other portion of the house projected as being about $150 more a month than the estimated monthly mortgage payment.  If AirBnB is an option there, that premium could end up getting paid down even faster. Legal battle for Steely Dan name looms

Within days the death of Walter Becker (story), his estate sent a letter to his Steely Dan band mate, Donald Fagen, notifying him that the estate considers an agreement Becker and Fagen entered into that would award the share of whichever member left the group or died to the remaining members invalid.  In addition to the 50% ownership of the name, the notification included the contention that Becker's widow should get an official status as an officer or director.  Neither notion sits well with Fagen. He has initiated a suit against the estate in an effort to gain full control of the Steely Dan name - and tacked on a claim for more than $1 million in damages.  Fagen's suit contends that as recently as 2009 Walter Becker confirmed himself as in accord with the agreement the two drew-up in 1972.

While most dates have yet to be finalized, Coors Field in Denver is a lock.  Guitarist Joe Walsh told the Las Vegas Sun that his group has plans for a moderately extensive tour of between 40 and 50 concerts.  After calling it quits following the death of Glenn Frey, the band reconvened for Desert Trip concerts with Deacon Frey, Glenn's son, taking his father's spot and also recruited Vince Gill.  Of Deacon, Walsh said, 'He doesn't know he's great but he's great, and that really helped us spiritually.  Then we got Vince Gill and he filed in that ghost voice in the harmonies, and he's a brilliant musician.'
