Extraordinary recording console heading to auction

Photo: Bonhams

What just might be the ultimate Rock collectible is headed for auction in December. Bonhams auctions will drop the gavel on a console Elvis Costello and Chris Difford of Squeeze put together that combines Helios recording studio consoles that were used in the recording sessions for Led Zeppelin IV, as well as studio recordings by Bob Marley, Eric Clapton, David Bowie, the Rolling Stones, Jimi Hendrix, George Harrison, Steve Winwood and dozens more. Early estimates put its value at $700,000, but it is likely to land a top bid well north of a million dollars in the December 11 auction in London.
