On August 1, 1971, George Harrison staged two concerts in Madison Square Garden to raise awareness and funds to help starving refugees in war-torn Bangladesh. The afternoon and evening concerts featured performances by Harrison, Ringo Starr, Eric Clapton, Bob Dylan, Leon Russell, Badfinger, and Billy Preston. Each concert opened with Indian music sets from sitarist Ravi Shankar. Combined, the two sold-out concerts, sales of the triple album, and the film documenting the concerts produced more than $10 million dollars in relief funds.
