Dead Venue Faces Backlash

Many of the fans that supported Phil Lesh in his efforts to establish a new community music and cultural center in Marin County, Califorrnia (story) are expressing surprise, disappointment and outrage over the $150 ticket price for a 12 concert grand opening series of dates by the former Grateful Dead bass player and his band, Phil Lesh & Friends. One irate fan suggested on the Terrapin Crossroads Facebook page that a more accurate name for the venue would be Shakedown Street.  Operators of the venue defended the price in a post on the venue web site, writing that expenses involved in presenting a 'major rock show' in an intimate setting requires '...a few bucks more' - an explanation not likely to settle things down.
