Deep Purple is logging a brief tour in Mexico.  During a Tuesday (2/22) press conference in Mexico City the subject of a new album was brought up.  Lead singer Ian Gillan responded by saying, '...it's about time, isn't it?', and went on to reveal that the group plans to get together for a writing session soon.  Provided that produces material the band members are excited about, he expects recording sessions would get under way quickly and the band could crank out the new album in short order.  The group's last release, Rapture Of the Deep, came out in 2005.
