Lennon Letters Going Public

Yoko Ono has reportedly sold the publishing rights to personal letters written by John Lennon.  Her decision to make the letters available for a book was arrived at with encouragement from biographer Hunter Davies, according to a report in the Guardian.  The collection is slated to go to print in the fall of 2012.  The Orion Publishing Group secured the international publishing rights after a bidding battle that took place in the north London home of Davies.  A representative of Orion declined to reveal the amount paid.  Alan Samson did proclaim that Lennon's status as one of '...the half a dozen icons of the 20th century' makes the collection extraordinary.  Most of the 150 pieces of correspondence have never been available for public viewing. The collection includes everything from very personal notes to letters Lennon wrote to record companies, newspapers and fans.
