Reprieve For Ringo's Birthplace

Fans attempting to block demolition of the house that Ringo Starr was born in found an ally who could have the clout to at least put demo plans on hold.  Liverpool Housing minister Grant Shapps is calling on the City Council to declare a halt to the development plan that would level 9 Madryn Street and hundreds of other structures to make way for a large commercial enterprise.  While the proposal calls for nothing more than a delay, it could provide enough time for preservationists to find the means to save the historic home.  Starr himself has stayed on the sidelines during the battle to spare the structure.  A nearby home the drummer lived in for two decades is out of harm's way.
