Ray Davies Talks New Album

Kinks fans cling to the expectation that an eventual reunion involving Ray & Dave Davies and other remaining members of the band is inevitable.  Great as it could be, prospects for it coming together in the near future diminished to someplace between slim and none recently because the Davies brothers are sniping at each other again.  That leaves fans with Ray's new album to tide them over.  See My Friends, out Nov. 8, finds Ray Davies in some interesting company - and is a good reminder of how broad the Kinks sphere of influence is.  Davies recently said that the project '...came about almost by accident' as a result of his decision to re-record the Kinks classic     'Tll The End of The Day with Alex Chilton, the late Box Tops and Big Star leader.  The process got Davies excited about an album full of Kinks covers collaborations. It also made him realize that the end result needed each song to have the unique signature of the person he invited to join him on it - smoething he decided could be best achieved by keeping certain guest artists in studios they were familiar and comfortable with.  He recorded Bruce Springsteen (Better Days) in New Jersey, Jon Bon Jovi & Richie Sambora (Celluloid Heroes) in New Jersey, Smashing Pumpkins Billy Corgan (All Day And All Of The Night/Destroyer) in Chicago, and caught up with Metallica in Europe.  Other artists on the 14 track album include Jackson Browne (Waterloo Sunset) and Lucinda Williams (Long Way From Home)
