English Heritage Honor For Lennon

A blue English Heritage plaque has been placed outside the entrance to the 34 Montagu Square building that houses the first floor and basement apartment John Lennon and Yoko Ono moved into after the Beatle left his first wife, Cynthia.  The property was owned by Ringo Starr, who rented it out to Paul McCartney and Jimi Hendrix before John and Yoko took up residence in 1968.  John worked on material for the White album while living there, and the apartment was also the setting for one of the most controversial album covers ever produced - the stark naked photo of Lennon and Ono that appeared on the front of the couple's Two Virgins release.  At the unveiling, Ono thanked officials during the unveiling Friday (10/22), saying, '...I am grateful to you all for commemorating John and this particular part of his London life, one which spawned so much of his great music and great art.'
