Historic Rock Hotel On Market

Prospective buyers of the former synagogue in Hibbing Minnesota where Bob Dylan (then Zimmerman) had his bar mitzvah at 13 (story) might want to consider another Dylan landmark. The hotel Dylan lived in while writing songs for Blonde on Blonde is being put up for sale. The price tag will be several hundred multiples of the $119,000 sought for the former synagogue, but the iconic Chelsea Hotel registry read like a Who's Who of Rock culture during the 1960's when Dylan, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, members of the Grateful Dead, Jim Morrison, Leonard Cohen, Joni Mitchell, Beat authors Jack Kerouac and Allen Ginsberg and painter Andy Warhol lived or hung-out there. The Grateful Dead played on the hotel's roof. Sid Vicious was charged with  stabbing his girlfriend to death there (he died before the trial concluded). Two years ago, tenants of the former hotel waged a battle with the building's owner to prevent the renovation of the room Bob Dylan lived in (story).
