On The Rural Route 7609 finally has a release date.  The John Mellencamp career spanning retrospective box set (7609 refers to the span of years covered on the collection) will drop on June 15.  Songs on the 54 song collection are sequenced according to artistic considerations instead of in chronological order, like most similar projects are.  Alternate takes of a number of songs are included in the collection, along with some relatively recent material and several previously unreleased archived titles.  A total of 17 songs on the set have never appeared on a Mellencamp album.  The collection is packaged with a 72 page book with commentary and stories about each song from interviews that John did with Anthony DeCurtis, who also composed an introductory piece about Mellencamp and the project for the book.  Mellencamp, who is doing a few concerts north of the border during the summer, plans to do an extensive tour late in the year after the release of No Better Than This, an album he recorded in a number of endangered historic buildings in various parts of the country.
