Levon Helm Birthday Jubilee

Nashville paid tribute to Levon Helm last week (4/22) when Emmylou Harris, Rodney Crowell, Gillain Welch, Buddy Miller, Robert Hunter and a number of other musical admirers joined the veteran drummer on the stage of the historic Ryman Auditorium to participate in a 70th birthday tribute to the former Band member.  Levon, who turns 70 May 26, will be joined by a number of special guests when his band appears  on the final day of Mountain Jam, Sunday, June 6 at Hunter Mountain in New York. Musicians already confirmed for that celebration set include Warren Haynes, whose group Gov't Mule will play both Friday and Saturday, Steely Dan's Donald Fagen, Ray Lamontagne and Steve Earle.  Other performers lined up for the 6th year of the three day festival at the base of the ski area on the eastern edged of the Catskill Mountains include Haynes' fellow Allman Brothers Band mate Derek Trucks, who will perform with wife Susan Tedeschi in their new band, Alison Kraus & Union Station, Dave Mason, Dark Star Orchestra, Toots & The Maytals, Drive-By Truckers, Grace Potter & The Nocturnals and many, many more.  Helm, who was unable to sing for a number of months after undergoing a precautionary biopsy follow-up to his treatment for throat cancer, has recently been able to lend his signature voice to some of the great songs he sang with the Band and material for his highly acclaimed recent albums Dirt Farmer and Electric Dirt.
