Bruce Springsteen brought his 85 year old mother to share the honor as he accepted the Ellis Island Family Heritage Award on Ellis Island in New York harbor Thursday (4/22). The daughter of Italian immigrants, Adele Springsteen stood in for Bruce when his former high school inducted him into its Hall Of Fame four years ago. This honor Bruce felt really belonged to her. The chairman of the foundation, former Chrysler Motors exec Lee Iacocca, made the presentation. Springsteen is the first Rocker to receive the honor. NBC News anchor Brian Willimas, a big fan and friend of the Boss, was the emcee for the afternoon ceremony, which was held in sight of Lady Liberty. Springsteen's great grandmother passed through Ellis Island in 1900 in the fall of 1900. In accepting the honor, Bruce noted, 'You can't really know who you are and where you're going unless you know where you came from.'
