Altamont Revisited

A comment Mick Jagger made during an interview almost made Altamont a festival that never happened.  Many if not most of those who went would end up wishing it had not.  The original plan had been to stage the concert in Golden Gate Park. San Francisco officials, alerted by the Jagger remark, quickly intervened to block it.  From that point forward, virtually anything that could go wrong did, starting with the choice of Altamont Speedway as the new site.  As tour manager for the Stones, Sam Cutler was ring side as chaos began to take over.  You Can't Always Get What You Want takes readers behind the scenes as Cutler recounts a sequence of events that make it a miracle that things did not end up even worse than they did at the 1969 concert.
