You probably would not have recognized him and may not have even known his name, but if you love Rock music you have undoubtedly seen his photos. When it came to capturing spontaneous moments that became character defining images for dozens of iconic performers, no photographer came close to Jim Marshall. Credited with countless album covers and portraits, Marshall was most highly regarded for his mastery of live action. Trust, the title of a recently published book featuring more photos from his remarkable archive, had a lot to do with why Marshall managed so often to be in the right place at just the right time. Marshall passed away in his sleep at 74 in New York Wednesday (3/23).
