Friday (3/5), the New York Historical Society special exhibit on the Grateful Dead opens in New York City.  The display of memorabilia and artifacts that chronicles the long, strange trip of the West Coast band that did many of its best shows in the Big Apple remains open until July 4.  Items included in the exhibit range from stage props, instruments and amplifiers to posters, handbills, original album artwork, and even guest lists for backstage access. Most of what is on display comes from the new archive dedicated to the Dead on the University of California Santa Cruz campus. (story).  $12 covers admission at 170 Central Park West.
