Bruce Springsteen and a number of other artists call it a travesty.  Irv Azoff claims it will create a synergy that is great for bands and fans.  The opinion that matters most to the merger of Ticketmaster and Live Nation was issued Monday (1/25) by the Department of Justice.  After the ticketing firm and the promoter/venue operator/management company cleared a couple of low hurdles tossed in front of the plan by the DOJ, the agency issued its approval of the plan, turning a deaf ear to critics that say the decision amounts to a government stamp of approval on a monopolistic empire rife with conflicts of interest that will cost consumers.  For his part, Azoff contends the combination will '...provide great services to Artists, Buildings, Teams and most importantly, fans.' Sounds a lot like the health care debate... but with a beat you can dance to.
