The Venice West Cafe in the SoCal coastal city near LA was a hangout for Beat Generation poets and musicians. In the 60's it drew Jim Morrison and other members of the Doors to 7 Dudley Avenue. The non-descript building no longer houses the cafe. The Piccolo Restaurant occupies the space now. But a plaque identifying the location that music, verse, art and social and political activism co-mingled and influenced American culture could be approved by March. A Cultural Heritage Commission unanimously voted to designate the address for historic cultural monument status. The recommendation gets reviewed by a committee of the City Council and, if approved, would be voted on by the whole body.
