Cruise Line Turns to Todd to Drum-up Biz

Carnival Cruise Line will market its fleet of floating pleasure palaces using Bang On The Drum, the great anthem against the daily grind from the 1983 Todd Rundgren album The Ever Popular Tortured Artist Effect.  The ads appear on morning network news programs and a number of hit shows, including NCIS, The Mentalist and, of course, The Office.  Each one aims to depict ways a Carnival Cruise lets people cut loose the shackles of their regular routine. No matter how you feel about the use of songs in commercials, you have to admit this matches up with the message better than most.  Rock doesn't stop at the dock on a number of cruises.  A Beatles theme cruise sails early in 2010.
