Monday (1/12) will be day 1 at retail for Neil Young's new Pono player and file format. The $400 awkwardly shaped player and the files it plays are being touted as a major improvement over the mp3 and wav files being used on the vast majority of existing players. Not only will the player set buyers back considerably more than other devices, the files temselves will be priced at a premium, will eat-up more storage space and will be harder to come by than the more familiar files. We love Neil but still can't help wondering why someone so OCD about sound quality has put out so many albums of marginal audio quality.
