We have been impressed with the convincing job Andre Benjamin does channeling Jimi Hendrix's mannerisms and speech in the preview scenes we've viewed from Jimi: All Is By My Side film but Kathy Etchingham, Jimi's close companion and lover from 1966- '69, is outraged at what she maintains are '...completely made up' scenes depicting Hendrix behaving violently toward her. Speaking with the Sydney Morning Herald just prior to the film's debut at the Sydney Film Festival, the Melbourne, Australia former real estate sales woman says she might take legal action because, 'If I don't, it'll just get repeated and repeated and it'll become the truth.' Her objections to the movie are echoed by a close friend and confidant of the guitar great. Talking with Variety about the movie, Roger Mayer says the portrayal of the relationship that includes domestic violence convinces him, '...these naughty filmmakers haven't researched anything properly'.
