Little Feat was always one of the truly Great American Bands. Those ranks have thinned so much lately that they could coast along and preserve that mantle just by staying together. And a glance at the songs titles on this disc might make you worry that shift had begun. Fear not Feat fans. Join The Band is not a "Best Of" "Greatest Hits" or a similarly easy to dismiss rehash that only gets credit in a "back in the day..." context. It is a fresh collection of Feat and other classics lovingly recorded by a cast including the guy that hatched the idea and offered his studio along with some of his band members for the recording, Jimmy Buffett (Time Loves A Hero), Emmylou Harris (Sailing Shoes), Chris Robinson (Oh Atlanta), Brooks & Dunn (Willin'), Dave Matthews (Fat man In the Bath Tub), Vince Gill (Dixie Chicken), Bob Seger (Something In The Water) and Lowell George's daughter, Inara, accompanied by Billy Payne rendering a beautiful version of Trouble. Join The Band is not a tribute album in the traditional sense - but it is a tribute to all involved that longtime Feat fans will find Join The Band deserves a place in their collections.
